Yellow Experience
A band of kids – Mikey, Brandon, Data, Mouth and Chunk – living in the Goon Docks and call themselves “the Goonies”. They attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and in doing so, they discover an old treasure map in the attic, that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.
Welcome to Experiencia Madrid, a voice sounds from the intercom after our doorbell. The door opens and we entered the anteroom without knowing what to expect. After taking a closer look at the futuristic room, we received instructions on the monitor. After the briefing, the first countdown started, and it was almost time to start. We chose “Amarila” and at first, we could not imagine much of it. The rooms at this provider initially reveal little about what to expect from the title. They are simply named after colors. Experiencia Blanca, Experiencia Roja, Experiencia Verde, Experiencia Azul, Experiencia Amarilla.
If we had read the website carefully (unfortunately only in Spanish), we would of course have guessed that this could only be about the Goonies, the adventure film classic from the 80s based on a story by Steven Spielberg. So, we were pleasantly surprised because we grew up with this film and really liked it.
No special knowledge of the Goonies is necessary, but experts on the subject will find some details and sequences from the film in the 70-minute scenario and will enjoy it. The settings in the individual game sections are great, the transitions are well made, and we were amazed. Wow! There is so much to explore. The puzzles were very varied and neither too easy nor too difficult. The room is certainly suitable for all ages. We played it three of us, but it would surely still be comfortable to play with four adventures.
Clues came over the speakers. We were also asked beforehand if we would like some. The hints were just right and the gamemaster always had an overview. We had retrieved the one-eyed Willie’s treasure after 50 minutes. In retrospect, we should have taken more time to enjoy this extraordinary game a little longer. Experience yellow was the clear favorite of our Madrid trip.
