Solvang in California is also called the Danish Capital of the USA and is one of “America’s most Christmassy towns”. The Julefest is a Danish holiday tradition and is celebrated in Solvang, usually starting from the end of November, with a month full of lights, festivities, and holiday cheer. The Julenisse is a Christmas elf that is an integral part of the Danish Christmas tradition. The name Nisse is a derivation of the name Niels, the Danish form for Santa Claus. The Nisse has a long white beard and helps Santa Claus create and deliver presents. So be nice to him! Because if you do not treat the Nisse well, he will play tricks on you and, in the worst case, even leave your house that he normally protects.

This year the Nisse is upset because we have neglected tradition. Therefore, he has decided to lock us up in our cozy home until we pay him the necessary respect and decorate and prepare our home for the Jul. We have 60 minutes to create a Christmassy atmosphere and make the Nisse feel at home again.

Not an everyday topic for an escape game! The many creative andtheme-related puzzles immediately create a Christmassy atmosphere. It is all about tradition, open fires, recipes, Christmas dinner, decorations, advent calendars, candles, spirit, gifts, pets, model railways… What a lovely game! Let’s keep up the tradition!

What else is there to say about this game? It is played via zoom(split-screen), accompanied by an easy to use inventory. The picture quality was good and stable. There is the possibility to change the perspective (GM camera or overview). Our gamemaster Yeshua has been very friendly and entertaining. The communication with him worked well and he guided us skillfully through the game without revealing anything by his looks. There are only a few padlocks and most events are triggered by props. A bit of Christmas music in the background (maybe via a YouTube link) might have been missing. Otherwise a lovely experience that makes you want to celebrate Christmas.
