The Pirates of the Blacktrap

This is a review of the Escape Room “The Pirates of the Blacktrap” offered by Trapgame in Martigny, Switzerland.

We bought the famous pirate galleon “Blacktrap” and started looking for the legendary treasure that the missing captain is said to have amassed during his numerous plunders. It is our first trip on the sea, and we are looking forward to an exciting pirate adventure in the spirit of Monkey Island.

For me, Trapgame is one of the top addresses among the escape game providers in Switzerland. At two different locations, in Charrat and Martigny, which are only 5 minutes away by car, a total of nine different escape games are offered. Unfortunately we were only able to play three of them on our French-speaking Switzerland trip. The Pirates of the Blacktrap, which narrowly missed the TERPECA Top 50 in 2020 at 62nd place (and was 63rd place in 2019), was our favourite, but the two other adventures, Le chalet de Grand-Mère and Jurrasic Jones, also knew how to please as well.

If you want to get a rough idea of what to expect here, you can watch the official trailer on YouTube, which was partly produced on the Blacktrap. Wind, thunder, as well as some impressive audio-visual effects that I have never experienced in such dimensions before, give the impression of being on a pirate ship on the high seas. We had a very immersive pirate trip with nice surprises.

There was quite a lot to do and discover on board. The puzzles were numerous, varied, original and appropriate to the topic. We three aspiring pirates did not quite manage to recover the captain’s treasure in time. Win or stay in! That is the motto of Trapgame. Despite not finishing in time we were able to experience the end of our exciting journey, thanks to Trapgame for letting us experience the full room. I think that on this adventure it should be possible to add 1-2 pirates to the crew without any problems, which is also easy on the wallet. Because with top prices of up to CHF 230, which must be paid in French-speaking Switzerland for the absolute top games, the selection should be made carefully. As I said, the Blacktrap is an impressive, complete pirate ship! Not just a ship deck or a cabin. Those of you have played “Pirate Bay” by Mystique Room in Budapest, know roughly what I mean by that.
